Analyzing Stocks - Week 1

Link to Group Worksheet is here

It was great to see so many curious learners!

What we talked about:

  • Risk - Return Tradeoff. We walked through a few examples that illustrate this concept.

  • Risk also relates with time. We walked through a few examples here too

  • What is a benchmark and why is that important?

We also went through an exercise of building a financial model. Group Worksheet is here. Demo video of what we did is at the bottom.

  • Each player has one tab. My tab is called “Unicorn”

  • You can label your tab whatever you want. I see some Whale and Giaffehorses already.

  • Only play with your tab and don’t alter other people’s tabs

  • Everybody has $10,000 to start with. You don’t have to invest all $10,000. Use your own risk tolerance to decide how much of the $10,000 you want to invest in week 1, and on which stock

  • The kids followed me on screen to build their first investment model. I will post a video about it

  • We learned how to use the following function: =googlefinance([Stock Symbol], “price”)

  • Building a model is OPTIONAL. If your child prefers to observe instead of being hands on, then they can join my Unicorn tab, where they make the investment decisions, and I build the model for them

  • When in doubt, please ask me, I’ll fix the model for you. You can also copy from my tab and paste to yours

We will continue building our knowledge from here. There is NO homework. We will pick up where we left and continue from there.

Thanks!
